The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco describes her as the first and only Asian recipient of the Silver Star. This profile attributes that distinction to the official Philippine account while treating the award order itself as the clearest evidence of her service.
A long life after clandestine service
Leones later lived for many years in the San Francisco Bay Area. Public commemoration followed long after the covert work that made her important, including a bronze bas-relief received by the Philippine Consulate in 2024.
