Accountancy and an international apprenticeship
Siobhán Talbot graduated from UCD with a commerce degree in 1984 and a postgraduate accounting diploma in 1985. She worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers in Dublin and Sydney before joining the group in 1992. Its 2011 report records successive finance posts, including Deputy Group Finance Director from June 2005.
That sequence makes the financial function a substantial career stage, rather than a brief preface to a chief executive appointment.

From finance to group management
She joined Glanbia’s board on 1 July 2009.
CRH’s biography describes her finance-director responsibilities as including strategic planning, and dates her appointment as Glanbia Group Managing Director to 2013.
During her executive tenure, the 2017 results record the acquisition of Amazing Grass in the United States and Body & Fit in the Netherlands. These added plant-based nutrition brands and a direct-to-consumer performance-nutrition business respectively. The transactions provide concrete examples of the group’s international nutrition strategy, without assigning the whole organisation’s work to one executive.
A decade of change and a planned succession
On 16 August 2023, Glanbia announced that Talbot intended to retire after ten years as Group Managing Director. It named Hugh McGuire, then leading Glanbia Performance Nutrition, as the incoming CEO from 1 January 2024. Talbot stepped down from her position and the board on 31 December 2023.
The subsequent remuneration report records her final retirement from group employment on 26 January 2024.
Announcement, end of the executive office and end of employment are therefore three dates rather than competing answers to a single question.
Board work beyond the executive office
Talbot joined CRH’s board in December 2018. Its selected profile records non-management service and an external directorship at Ingredion, alongside her accountancy fellowship and UCD qualifications.
Her trajectory connects training, finance, strategy, executive management and board oversight. It also shows why a career can continue outside the company with which a person is most closely associated. Old executive titles should remain attached to their dates.
