The entrepreneur behind Dao-Heuang

Leuang Litdang founded Dao-Heuang in 1991. Her company became closely identified with coffee from southern Laos, but began as an import-export business rather than a specialist coffee processor. A Thai university’s honorary-graduate profile records her birth on 20 October 1948; the documented commercial base of Pakse should not automatically be treated as a verified birth city.

The early business imported wine and perfume from France, alcohol and tobacco from Singapore, and household products from Thailand. Those activities built experience in purchasing, distribution and cross-border commerce. They also explain the later group’s breadth: coffee developed within a trading organisation with existing customer relationships, rather than appearing as an entirely separate venture without an earlier commercial foundation.

From imported goods to a Lao coffee brand

The group dates its diversification into coffee, tea, agriculture and industrial products to 1998. Its company profile describes a plantation in Pakxong district, Champasak, and a strategy of selling a Lao-made product to customers already served through regional trade. Coffee connected the business with the Bolaven Plateau’s growing region and gave it a recognisable consumer identity.

Cultivation and branding were only parts of that change. Roasting, processing, packaging and distribution allowed the company to participate in more stages between a crop and a finished product. The profile’s plantation area and harvest figures belong to an older corporate description; they are not used here as an independently verified measurement of the group’s present agricultural footprint.

Group consolidation and coffee processing in Laos

Dao-Heuang’s own account dates the consolidation of its branches into a group to 2007 and describes international coffee-production partnership agreements in 2010. These are milestones in the company’s account of its development. A forward-looking sentence on the same website anticipates a 2011 stock-exchange listing, but an intention in an old company introduction does not establish that a listing occurred.

Thailand’s consulate in Savannakhet provides a later, dated account of the instant-coffee factory established in Champasak in 2012. It identifies the location at kilometre 21 in Bachiengchaleunsouk district and describes processing facilities and food-safety management. The report gives substance to the move from importing consumer goods toward producing a finished coffee product inside Laos.

Diversification, ownership and public recognition

The company profile lists duty-free shops, property rental, pharmaceutical products and travel services alongside coffee. The founder’s business story is therefore broader than one beverage brand. At the same time, a group name should not be used as shorthand for complete personal ownership of every associated activity: the consulate’s September 2022 report describes a separate joint-venture structure for the coffee operation.

Leuang also received recognition for entrepreneurship. The company’s awards page and university profile identify an ASEAN women-entrepreneurs honour in 2008, associated with the Global Summit of Women in Hanoi. Such recognition documents a public business role; it is not an audited valuation, a current wealth ranking or proof that every corporate social claim has been independently evaluated.
