Is Lisa Thai or Korean?
Lalisa Manobal, known professionally as Lisa, is Thai. She was born in Buriram, Thailand, on 27 March 1997 and developed her performance skills before joining the South Korean entertainment industry. The alternative surname spelling Manoban appears in official publicity as well as news coverage; it does not identify a different BLACKPINK member.
Her nationality and the location of her professional training answer different questions. BLACKPINK belongs to the Korean pop industry, while Lisa’s connection to Thailand remains central to her public identity. Participation in a Korean group is not evidence that she is Korean, and this biography does not infer additional citizenship from overseas residence or international work.
Training and the BLACKPINK debut
Lisa moved to South Korea in 2011 as a YG Entertainment trainee. BLACKPINK debuted on 8 August 2016 with the single album Square One. The group brought together Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa, with tightly coordinated singing, rap, dance and visual performance at the centre of its presentation.
Her role in the group developed through recordings, choreography, videos and live performance. The path from a Thai childhood to years of training helps explain the cross-border character of her career. The group’s debut should be distinguished from her later solo debut: she was already an established BLACKPINK performer when Lalisa appeared in 2021.
Lalisa, LLOUD and the first full-length solo album
The 2021 release Lalisa was a single album, not the same project as Alter Ego. Lisa later established LLOUD for her individual activities. On 10 April 2024, LLOUD and RCA Records announced their partnership for solo releases. The announcement concerned her individual career, so it should not be read as a statement that BLACKPINK had disbanded.
RCA’s release record dates Alter Ego to 28 February 2025 and identifies it as her debut full-length solo album. Its songs include Rockstar, New Woman and Moonlit Floor. Separating the single-album debut, management company and full-length album gives a clearer career chronology than applying the label “solo debut” to every milestone.
The White Lotus and a screen role
In 2025 she appeared as Mook in the third season of HBO’s The White Lotus, set in Thailand. Associated Press reporting identifies the character as a member of the resort’s wellness staff. The role added scripted screen acting to a career previously known mainly through music and performance.
Lisa’s music persona and Mook are not interchangeable. The latter is a fictional character within an ensemble drama, not a documentary account of the singer’s life. The series also placed her within a production that drew international attention to Thailand independently of her recordings.

The tourism appointment came before the 2026 campaign
The Tourism Authority of Thailand announced Lisa’s acceptance of the Amazing Thailand Ambassador role on 15 October 2025. Its later January 2026 launch presented the “feel all the feelings” campaign. The appointment and the promotional-film launch were separate events, so the start of the role should not be moved forward to 2026.
The campaign formalised her association with Thai cultural visibility. TAT’s statements describe its promotional aims; they do not independently establish a numerical increase in visitors or spending caused by her involvement. Her biography can explain that public role without turning tourism publicity into an unsupported economic-impact claim.
