Engineering and the family transport business

Noni Purnomo’s route into transport combined engineering with practical work inside the family business. Newcastle records her Bachelor of Engineering in 1995. She worked in maintenance and later combined daytime marketing research at the Jakarta Convention and Exhibition Bureau with evenings at Bluebird, developing experience beyond a single office role.

An MBA in finance and marketing from the University of San Francisco complemented that background. She helped develop business strategy, communications and processes at a company founded by her grandmother, Mutiara Djokosoetono. Newcastle subsequently awarded her an honorary Doctor of Letters in 2019, distinct from her earned qualifications.

Electric taxis and executive leadership

Bluebird’s electric-taxi launch on 22 April 2019 introduced BYD and Tesla vehicles, with service planned from May. Purnomo spoke as president director of Blue Bird Group Holding. That event preceded her appointment as president director of the separately listed PT Blue Bird Tbk at its 22 May shareholders’ meeting.

Her listed-company leadership later encompassed the pandemic’s disruption to passenger transport. The company’s 2021 transition account describes delivery services, booking-app development and health protocols adopted during that period. These responses show the operational range of the role, from adapting services to maintaining a transport network under changed conditions.

Bluebird Peduli and women’s enterprise

Purnomo founded Bluebird Peduli in 1998 and Kartini Bluebird in 2014. Educational assistance for drivers’ and employees’ children formed one strand of this work. Skills training, small-enterprise support and women’s economic participation extended the programmes beyond the company’s passenger services.

Newcastle recognised her as Indonesia’s Australian Alumni of the Year in 2019. Its account also describes mentoring and investment networks for entrepreneurs. The initiatives place employee-family welfare and enterprise development alongside her corporate responsibilities, without reducing the career to a list of company titles.

From management to corporate oversight

On 27 August 2021, Sigit Djokosoetono succeeded Purnomo as PT Blue Bird Tbk’s president director, while she became president commissioner. A further change in June 2025 moved her to vice president commissioner. These transitions shifted her listed-company responsibilities from executive management toward board oversight.

The 18 June 2026 shareholders’ announcement reappointed her as vice president commissioner through the 2029 annual meeting and named Adrianto Djokosoetono as president director. Her holding-company positions and the listed company’s governance structure remain separate: neither an older chief-executive title nor a family connection establishes the current office.
