A shop becomes a chain
Lee opened Pasar Raya Hiap Hoe in 1987. After selling that business, he established Ninety Nine Market in 1992. By 1998 it had eight Klang stores.

Putting the business into a company
He incorporated 99 Speed Mart Sdn Bhd in 2000. It acquired Ninety Nine Marketโs assets and assumed its liabilities in 2003.
Keeping them separate makes the development easier to follow: opening a shop, adopting a brand and transferring a business are different events.

Purchasing, people and distribution
Ng Lee Tieng joined Ninety Nine Market in purchasing in 1997. The prospectus records her supplier and costing work, then responsibility for human resources and operational support. Leeโs expansion depended on complementary management work.
