From modelling to Myanmar cinema
Thet Mon Myint developed her entertainment career through modelling, advertising, music videos and screen acting. The Irrawaddy’s 2018 retrospective traces that progression from around 2000 and recalls collaborations with singer and actor Sai Sai Kham Leng, including the music video Wan Nae Hmat Tan. These appearances preceded her later film-award recognition.
Her connection with Chin communities also developed beyond performance. In May 2012, Chinland Guardian reported donations made on her family’s behalf in Falam: a vehicle for a monastery and 170 solar panels for Laizo village tracts. The report identifies her as Zung Cer Mawi, another name associated with her public life.
A first Academy Award for Adam, Eve and Datsa
Her first documented Best Actress award recognised Adam, Eve and Datsa, also rendered Adam, Eve and Dettha. It belonged to the competition covering films released in 2010, although the presentation took place in Naypyidaw on 7 February 2012.
The following day’s Myanmar News Agency report names Thet Mon Myint as the acting winner. It also records Best Actor for Pyay Ti Oo and Best Film for Heart N Soul Film Production. Her individual honour therefore formed part of a wider set of awards for the production, rather than being a personal award for directing or producing it.

My Lovely Hate and a second acting honour
Thet Mon Myint received another Best Actress award for My Lovely Hate, whose Burmese title appears in the contemporary English report as Chit-hla-swar-thaw-a-mone. This honour covered the 2016 film year and was presented at People’s Square in Yangon on 18 March 2017.
The next day’s Myanmar News Agency account identifies both the actress and the film. The two reports establish separate acting wins for different productions and competition years. They also show why a film-year award and the date of its ceremony need to remain distinct when reconstructing her career.

Deception and changing screen work
She later appeared in Deception: Oo Pel Dan Myin. In a March 2019 interview, she expressed hope that the film would receive Academy recognition while taking a more modest view of her own chances. She described the character as unfamiliar territory, offering a first-person account of the challenge rather than a retrospective claim that she had already won an award for it.
Her discussion also addressed the industry around the film. She felt the production had encouraged stronger competition and renewed audience interest. That assessment explains how she understood the project’s significance: changes in the range and ambition of screen work mattered alongside an individual performer’s trophies.
