Education and the family-business setting
Anthoni Salim is an Indonesian executive associated with the group founded by his father, Sudono Salim, also known as Liem Sioe Liong. His own career concerns succession and management within that business network, not the founding of every company later associated with the family.
Indofood’s official biography records a Bachelor of Arts from Ewell County Technical College in Surrey, Britain, in 1971. The later food business used a corporate vehicle established as PT Panganjaya Intikusuma in 1990, renamed Indofood in 1994. That company history is distinct from the older family group and its founder.
Succession and the Asian financial crisis
Anthoni entered the family business during the 1970s and assumed greater control during the 1990s. Marleen Dieleman’s interview-based study of the Salim Group describes this succession as part of a wider evolution in how the group operated, rather than a single undifferentiated transfer of all businesses on one date.
The 1997–2000 crisis brought debt restructuring, transfers of assets to the government and disposals of overseas holdings. The study identifies Indofood and First Pacific among the important businesses that remained. This account concerns a difficult group restructuring; it does not justify presenting every disposal as a personal success or treating all group assets as Anthoni’s individual property.

Indofood and Indofood CBP: separate listed companies
Anthoni became President Director and Chief Executive Officer of Indofood in 2004, with his latest reappointment recorded in 2024. The company’s earlier development included its 1994 listing, the 1995 Bogasari flour-mill acquisition and the integration of plantation, agribusiness and distribution companies in 1997.
He also became President Director of Indofood CBP, or ICBP, in 2009, with a reappointment recorded in 2024. ICBP listed in 2010; the consumer-products business also expanded into dairy and beverages. These operating developments belong to companies with their own boards and reporting records, rather than businesses each personally founded by the same executive.
First Pacific and cross-company governance
At First Pacific, Anthoni’s directorship began in 1981 and his chairmanship in June 2003. That chairmanship differs from his president-director responsibilities at the Indonesian food companies. The dates trace a long connection with the investment group rather than a new company created when he became chairman.
The Asia Business Council identifies him as President and CEO of the Salim Group and records membership from 2004. Reading that group-level identity alongside the listed companies’ own disclosures gives a clearer picture of his work: influence across related businesses, but different legal entities, governance roles and appointment histories.
