A world champion at nineteen
Nepomuceno began bowling at twelve and quickly moved from domestic competition to the international circuit. At nineteen he won the 1976 Bowling World Cup in Tehran, becoming the youngest men’s champion in the event’s history.
Victories in 1980, 1992 and 1996 made him the only player to win four Bowling World Cups across three different decades. He also won the 1984 World Invitational and the 1999 World Tenpin Masters, bringing his recognised world-title total to six.
Longevity becomes a form of influence
Nepomuceno kept winning through changing equipment, scoring environments and generations of opponents. Guinness World Records recognised 133 tenpin titles by 2019; his official record lists 137 worldwide career titles after another senior victory in April 2026.
His later work as a USBC Gold-level coach, lecturer and federation adviser turned competitive knowledge into a development role. Induction into the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame in 2018 reflected both his results and the visibility he created for a sport outside the Olympic medal programme.
