Aung La N Sang was born in Myitkyina and attended school in Yangon before moving to the United States in 2003. While studying agriculture at Andrews University, he began training in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts.
He made his professional debut in 2005 and developed a reputation for submission finishes. After working as a migratory beekeeper and fighting on regional cards, he joined ONE Championship in 2014.
